CAUTIONARY TALES FOR CHILDREN

RE-IMAGINING FIVE OF HILAIRE BELLOC'S POEMS FROM HIS 'CAUTIONARY TALES FOR CHILDREN'  IN A COLLABORATIVE PROJECT

BIG BOOK PROJECT

COLLABORATIVE PROJECT COMPLETED IN MY SECOND YEAR AT UNIVERSITY

We were assigned to groups of 5 people and given the task of producing a book that featured up to 5 of Hilare Belloc's poems from Cautionary Tales for Children. The brief outlined that we had to create the book to cater to an adult audience rather than children.

As a group we had to assign each other different roles, which was initially challenging as a few of us wanted the same responsibilties. However we decided on having 1 Art Director, 1 Illustrator, 1 Layout Designer and 2 Typographers. I took on the role of Layout Designer. Although illustration is another passion of mine, we felt it was best to have consistency in the book and having one illustrator would be more beneficial. For my role I had to work really closely with the illustrator in the thumbnail stages of the

project, so I could determine best where the illustrations should be best placed and then she could finalise the drawings.

Although I foud this project extremely challenging, because a lot of opinions are involved and there were many tense moments, I was really pleased with the final outcome. We as a group were able to produced a strong and bold book that could be sent off for printing.

Below is the PDF of our final book. The first spread is the front and back cover.
