RAINBOW REIGN

GAMIFYING THE ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION TO CHILDREN WITH LIFE-THREATENING AND LIFE-LIMITING ILLNESSES

SOCIAL DESIGN

SOCIAL DESIGN PROJECT WITH LIVE PARTNERS COMPLETED IN MY SECOND YEAR AT UNIVERSITY

The aim for the children is to close the rainbow by the end of the day. This is achieved by completing all the rainbow trolls tasks/games, for example, Blue's game is the memory game, the children have to match all the cards into pairs. Once all the cards have been matched the child is congratulated and closes the blue section of the rainbow, in addition to winning £50.

The money being earnt is another aspect of the game that makes it more exciting. The children can create their own avatar, which they can buy new clothes, accessories etc. for as they earn more money.

Green is the most important rainbow troll, as he sets the children the task of taking their medication. Green himself has to

take medication which allows the children to relate to him and feel like he isn't another adult telling them they have to take their medication. He gives the opprotunity to ask the children how their feeling and then reassure them of those feelings.

They then take their medication together.

If the children take their medication they must hand their device to a trusted guardain who types in the parental code to confirm its been taken. After confirmation the child is congratulated and the green section of the rainbow is closed. They also earn more money, £100, as Green's task is more challenging, it is also further, incentive for the children to take their medication.

In settings the trusted guardian can change the parental code and change other aspects of the game depending on the child.

Once the Rainbow has been closed the children earn their final prize of the day (which is money).
